     SSSA RULES

1) RUNNER ON BASE WITH TURN TO BAT: Batting team charged with an out except when runners are in short supply and when waiver received from Umpire or Commissioner. Running rules relaxed during summer July/August and September.

​

2) RUNNERS NOT REPLACED. Base runner must request a substitute if injured OR otherwise unable to run for any reason whatsoever. This rule is suspended in the ninth inning onwards when Managers are free use pinch.

​

3) NO TIE RULE:  Unless managers agree to a tie, extra innings are played until a winner is determined. The game continues until a winner is determined. NO base runner is spotted on second base. No limit on the amount of runs a team can score in any extra inning. 

​

4) SUBSTITUTE RUNNERS Substitute runners may run once per inning. There is no limit on the number of times a substitute may run per game. When there are no runners available or when temps above 90F degrees, an exemption (waiver) may be issued by an Umpire or the Commissioner. Running rules are relaxed during summer play July thru September. 

​

5) RAiNOUT RULE: The Commissioner and only the Commissioner shall determine whether a game is canceled due to weather. Players may leave the field at anytime provided they notify their manager prior to leaving. Watch NEWS for weather reports.

6) IRA RULE: Players 80 years and older cannot not be thrown out at first base should the batted ball reach safely on the green. With a right handed batter at the plate, only two outfielders are permitted on the left side of second base. The reverse applies when a left handed batter is at the plate. Ira is the oldest player (89) and our elder statesman. This rule is named in his honor. Ira, Roger, Evilio SR, and Rooster are members of this exclusive club.

7) 80/UP RULE: We are blessed with players participating well into their 80’s. In this regard, they shall be granted special privileges from time to time as determined by the commissioner.Players 90 years and older shall receive all extended courtesies.

8) SCREEN RULE: Pitching screen is in fair territory therefore, it cannot cause an out. Curtesy rule applies to any number of two strike consecutive batted balls that hit the screen. Pitchers are reminded to stay behind the screen until the ball is past.

 

9) COVID RULE:  SSSA policy recognizes health as an individual matter left to each person to decide on their own. Therefore, our games shall be played on Saturday as usual. Any member choosing not to play, please let me know asap and Commissioner shall adjust the rosters accordingly.

10) NO CONTACT RULE: On infield force plays at second and third base, it is the responsibility of the runner to avoid contact. He may “veer” in order to achieve this outcome. The decision shall rest at the sole judgement of the umpire. In event of interference, with less than two out, a double play shall result.

​

11) CATCH UP:  When a team is behind by more than five (5) runs, they may score enough runs to tie the score.

 

12)  STARTING COUNT/WALKS:  Each batter starts with 1-1 count. Two walk limit per inning.

13) RE-SIGN UP RULE: If a member rvoluntary resigns from the League, and later wishes to be re-instated, he/she must be approved

by Board Vote of 60% or greater including the Commissioner.
